La Haye Sainte

Oh, the joys of 1/72... This is an Airfix La Haye Sainte kit, and costed me £9.00 on ebay. Similar buildings in other popular scales, even 15mm, which is smaller, can easily go over US$100.00.

The only thing I found this kit lacking on was on doors and window frames, but nothing I couldn't come up with using plasticard and a moddeling blade to carve it up a bit to mimic wood grooves.

The cart is from the Hat Napoleonic British Rockets kit, I only used one for my rocket battery, so I still have a couple left for future projects. The hay on it is sisal fiber, trimmed from one of the pieces of crop I have, made out of a door mat.

The side garden is a separate base, for ease of storage and transport. I had to cut down the extended wall to do that, for it comes in a single piece, conected to the wall of the main house.

I was not sure how to design a proper garden there, and I admit I'm not completely happy with it as it is, I might add some more plants and bushes in there, but I don't want to got over the top, either. I want to leave plenty of room for skirmishing soldiers to occupy.

And here is the emperor and his retinue, used for scale:

  4. Lovely to see. I think the garden bit is just fine, it looks good and is super functional. I haven't seen this building in ages and then last week in my hobby shop, they had just brought in the full kit package with the various figures that I would not use and farm for £40, so your £9 was a good find.

  6. Fantastic effort. One thing, IIRC the windows and doors were burned for firewood before the battle so they may not be strictly necessary.
