Oh, the technology. What amazing inovations we're seeing every day! With the advent of 3d printing, I believe the industry of our hobby is entering a new era. High quality prints are now a reality.
Five years ago, I'd have thought it would take at least another 15-20 years for such revolution to take place, but it's already here. And the possibilities seem endless!
For instance, I acquired this set of buildings, a complete farm, from a seller named croy-2012, on ebay. He had several options of scale to print this product on, including 20mm. Hearing that I played 1/72, he kindly offered to adjust the 20mm option a bit up to be a perfect match for my figures, even though I'd be happy to settle for the 20mm option.
Here is the set, printed in 23mm, perfectly scaled for my collection of 1/72. The one grudge I had with 3d prints was those pesky paralel lines showing on surfaces, particularly visible on inclined surfaces, but these models have very subtle marks of print, barely visible, which comes to show that this new format is evolving very quickly.
