I did this small unit of Fench Elite Gendarmes for my games of Black Powder. This is the smallest unit of cavalry I've done to date, with only 2 bases, to represent the fact that they were quite few.
I used Hat's Grenadiers a Cheval to proxy them, as I'm not aware of any proper option for these gendarmes in 1/72 plastics. Because of that, there are a couple issues with uniform accuracy, such as the aguilletes, that should be at the opposite side, but this doesn't bother me at all. These guys have one of the most beautiful uniforms of the french cavalry, and I'm happy to have them join my growing collection!
I've been painting Napopleonic Wargames figures for what, 45 years now, and it took me until year 44 to do this unit... and not nearly as well as you have! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the choice of the earlier "reversed colors" for the trumpeter. Wer diod both opt fopr the same size - a mere 6 figures, as it was a small outfit. ax much as facing them on the battlefield would have been threatening, being interrogated by them would surely have been far worse!
Peter, I decided to do them after seen yours on your blog, so you have a hand on this! And your Gendarmes look great!
DeleteVery nice sir, your shading has really made these figures pop. Well done

Thanks, JJ!
DeleteAnother great 1/72 contribution. Your blog has inspired me to dig out some of my unfinished 1/72 Italeri Austrians and get some finished. Nice painting style overall.
