Russian Guard Artillery
Here is my first unit of artillery for the russians. These are Zvezda's Russian Guard Heavy Artillery kit, the "old" kit, which comes with 3 guns + plenty of crew:
They look superb! As painted, they are Line foot artillery, which is perfectly fine, as you'll get much more use out of them than the Guard. The Guard units had a few fairly subtle distinctions that would be evident at our scales - the pairs of yellow (gold for officers) guard "litzen" (lace) on the collars, and yellow within medium, green pom poms instead of the red of the Line.
Outstanding piece of work! Would you share the information about painting? Is it the same green color on their uniforms as on the canons...? I just recived the same figures and i wonder what would be the best green (together with the heavy grenadiers also from Zvezda). Waiting any tips from you because they're my first Russians and I want them to look as your Russians :)
Hi, Antoni! I'm glad you like my russians! Here's how i paint them.
Guns: • Matte black Primer • Heavy Drybrush Citadel Caliban Green • Medium Drybrush Citadel Kabalite Green • Medium Drybrush Vallejo MC Luftwaffe Cam. Green • Light Drybrush Citadel Loren Forest • Gun in Vallejo MC Brass, followed by wash Citadel Seraphim Sephia, followed by wash Citadel Agrax Earthshade, and drybrush Vallejo Brass + any silver color (3/1)
The uniform green:
• Matte grey Primer • Green in Citadel Caliban Green + Vallejo MC Luftwafe Cam. Green (1/1) • Wash Citadel Nuln Oil over green • Highlight in Citadel Caliban Green + Vallejo MC Luftwafe Cam. Green + White (3/3/1)
Big thanks for full reply. I was wondering what do you think about Vallejo Medium Olive (081) with drybrush Vallejo Olive Green (082)? Few days ago i bought those two colors because it seemed like I can use them for russian jackets but now I have doubts (no one used them!). Have you ever used these colors for anything or does anyone dedicate them for napoleonic? I'm still fresh in painting topic but I hope one day my figures could be placed next to yours if it's going about the skills ;)
Great work! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking artillery...and surely effective!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips, Peter! I might correct those details on them, or perhaps leave those as line artillery, and paint anotehr set as guard proper!
DeleteКрасота!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, gentlemen!
ReplyDeleteExcellent painted artillery! And I really like how you did the shading on these figures!
