1st French Hussars

I dread having to paint hussars, their intricate uniform translate into slow progress on the paint desk, but I have been postponing this project for too long now.

I even did a couple regiments of russian hussars already, one last year and another a couple months ago, but let's face it, a single regiment of hussars a year won't get my collection anywhere. I just had to start painting my stash of hussars, and that includes a bunch of french units.

So here it is, my first unit of those french marauders , the 1st Hussars.

These are Italeri's, and I really like their varied look. Very "hussarly". Some of them wear the pelisse, some have it hanging over their shoulder, some don't have it at all (the pelisse, not the shoulder. They all have shoulders). Some wear the early shako, some wear the late version.

The fact the dolman and the pelisse of the 1st hussars are the same color help give them a more standardized look, but the lack of uniformity will show more on my next regiments (yes, there will be more!)

  1. Lovely work Mateus, I think you may have to put comment moderation on though.

  2. They look great! I always liked those Italeri figures.

Do hussars really need Viagra? Somehow I doubt it! :-)

  3. Great work, I have a pile of Italeri Hussars in my stash ready to replace my ageing Airfix versions sometime this year.

  4. They are beautiful, Mateus! And a Hussar never needs Viagra to help his "plume" stand up!
Yeah, Hussars are a pain in the derriere to paint... but the end result is really worth it, as we see here!

  5. I'm glad you like them, guys! I'm also happy that we all agree those fellows don't need no... err... "stimulant" whatsoever. Indeed, their reputation precedes them in that regard!
